Introduction to Mukhyamantri Saur Swarojgar Yojana

Mukhyamantri Saur Swarojgar Yojana (MSSY) is a flagship initiative under the Uttarakhand renewable energy scheme aimed to provide employment opportunities to unemployed Youth, Farmers and Migrant persons through Solar Energy. Beneficiaries can install solar power plant at  25 KW on their personal and leased land  and Income can be earned by selling the Electricity generated.

Uttarakhand Government has launched The “Mukhayamantri Saur Swarojgar Yojana” to establish a monthly income for its states and Marginal Farmers and young entrepreneurs. Through which 20 to 200 KW self- employment opportunities are being provided. Under the Scheme, you can build a solar plant on your land for 25 years and sell the electricity generated from it at Rs.4.64 per Unit. After which you can generate income of RS 1.5 lakh for yourself every month. The government of Uttarakhand will provide loan at the rate of 9% annual interest for a period of 15 years for setting up a solar plant. Mukhyamantri Saur Swarojgar Yojana is among the leading solar incentives in India, offering up to a 50% subsidy on solar project costs and low-interest loans to participants.

Solar Energy Targets and Capacity Goals

Under the campaign the government will give special exemption to the fast pace of installation of solar projects in 1000 villages of the state selected by Uttarankhand Renewable Energy Development  Agency (UREDA).  The government has expected that the state will have a capacity of 2000 MW in solar energy by 2025. The government aims to generate 4000 MW of solar energy by 2027 under this Uttarakhand renewable energy scheme, ensuring sustainable growth in the state.

Under the new policy, the government will give many concessions along with subsidy on setting on solar projects.

Employment of local youth has also been guaranteed in this policy. It is said in the policy that whoever sets up a solar project by taking government land on lease will have to provide employment to 70% of the local youth.

It is estimated that the capacity will be 600 MW for large projects, 250 MW FOR residential projects and 700 MW for commercial industry projects, 350 MW for institutions and 50 MW for agriculture.

Energy Corporation will purchase it so that the power crisis of the state can be solved in future. Keeping these possibilities in mind, a new solar energy policy has been prepared in the state.

  • Due to lack of employment, people who were migrating from villages to cities will get employment at their homeland, which will reduce migration.
  • For a 20 to 200 KW solar plant, you will need 240-3,000 square meters of land.
  • Climate will also provide seeds of medicinal and herbal plants for that land free of cost.

Eligibility Criteria

  • To apply the scheme, it is mandatory for the applicant to be a resident of Uttarankhand.
  • To apply under the scheme, the applicant must be 18 years of age or above.
  • Under this scheme an applicant can apply only once.
  • The scheme is designed to benefit unemployed youth and ensure they have access to solar energy jobs in Uttarakhand
  • The applicant should not be a defaulter of any nationalized bank.
  • Only one application per family has been fixed by the government.
  • Applicant should have land of 240 to 3000 square meters.
