Pradhan Mantri Surya Ghar yojana is a scheme started by Government of India to provide free electricity with the help of solar panels implementation on the rooftops. PM Surya Ghar Muft bijli yojna launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on 15th February 2024. This scheme aims to benefit 1 crore households in India. By implementation of solar panel under this scheme will save the government’s rupees 75 crore per year electricity costs.

- Scheme holder must be a resident of the country.
- Applicant must have their own house which is suitable for the installation of solar panels.
- Scheme holder should have a valid electricity connection
- Applicants should not be a holder of any other solar panel scheme.
How to apply for PM Surya Ghar Yojna
Step 1: Visit the official portal of PM Surya Ghar Yojna
Step 2: Click on the apply for rooftop solar button provided in the left side of the open interface.
Step 3: Click on the registration and then select your state, district, electricity distribution company/ utility and consumer account number
Step 4: Enter your mobile number and email address
Step 5: Enter all the necessary details on the ‘Apply for Rooftop Solar Installation’ form, upload the documents and click on the ‘Final Submission’ button to submit the form.
Step 6: Now wait for your feasibility approval, once you get approved install the solar panel by any of the registered vendors. You can see the list of registered vendors by clicking here.
Step 7: Once the installation is complete, submit the plant details and apply for net meter.
Step 8: After inspection by DISCOM, commissioning certificate will be generated from the portal.
Step 9: Once you get the commissioning certificate then submit the bank details through the portal only then you will receive your subsidy in your bank account under 30 days

Loans
Maximum loan amount is Rs. 6 lacs and minimum loan amount is 2 lacs. Households will be able to avail collateral free low interest loan products of around 7% for the installation of solar panels. Applicants must show their ability to return the loan by submitting proof of income and other required documents.
