The Saur Sujala Yojana is a program in Chhattisgarh that provides solar powered irrigation pumps to farmers. This scheme was started in 2016. Under this scheme, farmers are given solar powered irrigation pumps at a very low cost. This scheme is being implemented by Chhattisgarh state Renewable energy Department, [CREDA] under the Energy Department of the state Government. Agriculture department selects farmers. Under the scheme, the government provides subsidy for solar powered pumps for irrigation to those whose village do not have electricity. This scheme is being run by the government .This scheme provides financial help to the farmers in agriculture. This scheme has been started on 1 November 2016 with the aim of empowering the farmers by providing them irrigation pumps at concessional rates.
Benefits of Saur Sujala Yojana:
- Chhattisgarh government started the Saur Sujala Yojana scheme in 2016. At the beginning of the government scheme ,the target was to provides 51 thousand solar pumps by march 2019. The Renewable Energy Department performed better than the target set in July 2018.
- Renewable Energy Department distributed 56 thousand pumps connection to farmers.
- In the middle of Saur Sujala Yojana, farmers have been able to double their income by planting crops. Earlier, farmers had only the help of rain to plant crops, now the benefit of Saur Sujala Yojana has been increased by two times.
- Due to schemes, the Economic condition of farmers started improving and household started earning some money.
- Under Saur Sujala Scheme, farmers are given subsidy for solar panels after completing the general document certificate.
- Use of solar pumps increases agricultural production in the state and helps in groundwater conservation and improvement.
- Under the scheme, two types of pumps are being given to the farmers, the first is 3hp pump for small farmers and the second is 5 hp pump which is for big farmers. CREDA also helps farmers in installation and maintenance of these pumps.
